New York Ephedra AttorneysThe FDA has received over 800 reports of heart attack, seizure, stokes, hemorrhage, high blood pressure, rapid or irregular heart rate, or death related to the use of this product. The FDA and the National Council Against Health Fraud have identified ephedrine as the worst over-the-counter and/or mail order product available today. Ephedrine -- also known as Ma Huang and Ephedra -- is not regulated by the FDA, as it is a diet supplement. Ephedra may have potential deadly side effects, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now calling for limits on recommended dosages and is proposing new consumer labeling requirements. Ephedra is an "herbal stimulant" found in literally hundreds of products including herbal diet products, asthma medications, health foods and dietary supplements. Some examples of products containing Ephedra are: Herbalife Thermojenitics, Metabolife, Metabolite, Ripped Fuel (recently recalled-see articles and links section) and Diet Fuel. The FDA has warned that users of these dietary supplements may put themselves at risk for heart attacks, seizures and other severe problems, including death. The FDA reports nausea, irregular heart beats, insomnia, nervousness and disorientation as adverse effects of ephedrine. Use is also associated with hyperactivity, diarrhea, dizziness, disorientation, numbness, anxiety, chest pains, breathing difficulty, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, hypertension, depression, headaches, and insomnia. Three instances of death were associated and several involved heart attacks, seizures and strokes. If you are using a product containing Ephedrine, Ma Huang or Ephedra and have experienced any of the symptoms listed above, please see your health care professional immediately and discontinue use of the product until you get advice from your doctor. |
