New York Celebrex Injury Attorneys

Celebrex, also know as celecoxib, belongs to a class of drugs called COX-2 inhibitors, which work to alleviate the symptoms of arthritis by blocking COX-2 enzymes that cause inflammation. Manufactured jointly by Searle Pharmaceuticals and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, it was approved by the FDA and introduced in 1999. Celebrex is the most popular arthritis drug currently on the market and has been prescribed millions of times since its approval, according to the manufacturer.


Recent research indicates that Celebrex has been linked to at least ten deaths and may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clot in patients taking the medication. The drug has also been linked to several gastrointestinal disorders. Despite these findings the manufacturers and the FDA continue to stand by Celebrex's safety. Searle maintains that "the drug is performing as expected."
